Song Knowledge Base (SKB) is a structured library of songs built for research, language learning, and careful rights documentation.
What SKB is
SKB catalogs underlying musical works and their many recordings, lyrics versions, translations, sources, and educational metadata. One song can have multiple recordings from different providers, each with its own rights status.
The project supports public-domain, traditional, creator-authorized, and later licensed commercial works—always with explicit rights records rather than assumptions.
What SKB is not
- Not a music streaming service
- Not a lyrics-scraping site
- Not a substitute for legal counsel
- Not a place where “traditional,” “old,” or “YouTube embeddable” automatically means public domain
